I would like to welcome you all to the 2022 H3D Symposium hosted by the University of Cape Town’s Holistic Drug Discovery & Development (H3D) Centre.  This is the 4^th H3D Symposium held in Africa (the 3^rd in the Western Cape) and the 2022 theme is ‘A Spectrum of Opportunities in Infectious Disease Drug Discovery to Enhance Global Health’.  The Symposium covers the Centre’s research over 12 years conducted on infectious diseases and includes presentations from the H3D team, our research collaborators, and local and international funders. 

Thank you all very much for making the effort to join us out here and I hope you will enjoy this Symposium held in true Cape style at the Webersburg Estate, surrounded by leafy vineyards and beautiful mountain scenery, in the Stellenbosch winelands.  Enjoy listening to, learning from and networking with drug discovery and development scientists and students from Africa and around the world, all of whom are working on the discovery of drugs to combat Tuberculosis, Malaria, antibiotic-resistant microbial diseases and a host of Neglected Tropical Diseases.  Through this symposium, we’d like to ensure that all these highly infectious, deleterious diseases receive worldwide attention in both scientific and non-scientific arenas.
